Smoke n' Jax perform

Smoke n' Jax

Smoke 'n' Jax is a brand new alloy, combining the guitar of Scot Silver with Joe Hrin on sax. After years of playing with various local groups, they've gotten together to bring the world a fresh interpretation of jazz, latin and sophisticated pop.

NOTE: Official, fact-checked biographies were not available for Scot and Joe at press time. In their place are unofficial and completely fabricated biographies.

Scot Silver

Scot is a seven-time decorated veteran of World War II (he lied about his age when he enlisted.) While in Mongolia shortly after the war, he became a disciple of master Morihei Ueshiba, who taught him the principle of "jinkoto ittai" (guitar and body as one) and began his career as a guitarist. He is now an eighth-degree black belt in arpeggio.

Returning to the United States, Scot penned the ditty "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (used later as the theme song to the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey"). This song inspired Friedrich Nietzsche to write the book of the same name. "He's totally the Übermensch," Nietzsche would say later.

Joe 'Jax' Hrin

You probably remember Joe as the MVP of Super Bowl XVI (You can bet that Cincinnati will never forget!) What you may not know is that years earlier, he invented a totally new musical instrument, the "Hrinaphone", would revolutionize Jazz music, but this would happen sometime later. Concerned that he might be late for his flight to Geneva to accept the Nobel prize in physics, Joe gave the Hrinaphone project to his brother-in-law, Adolphe Sax, who renamed it.

Scot and Joe met completely by chance one day, standing next to each other waiting to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from then-president William Clinton. Clinton, a saxophonist himself, quickly recognized Joe and introduced him to Scot, revealing that Odyssey was the only album permitted to play in the White House. Some years later, Scot and Joe formed Smoke and Jax.
