Scot Silver is a trained musician and writer. He has earned the Hal Simons Memorial Award for Excellence in Music. A Classical Performance Major at West Chester University from 1987 to 1991, Scot studied under Glenn Lyons while performing with the West Chester Classical Guitar Ensemble. Scot advanced his jazz and pop playing through studies under Chuck Anderson, with whom he studied for over 20 years. During that period, he began writing for both band and solo guitar.
In 1996, Scot opened the first of his teaching studios. Silver Music Studios has developed into a successful teaching and recording facility for people of all ages and musical interests. Mr. Silver has also created Jam Sessions, an educational product which includes a booklet and tape/cd used in aiding the student’s improvisational development.
In addition to running the studios, Scot still performs regularly in classical, jazz and rock ensembles, including Adagio (classical guitar and flute or violin); Shades of Silver (jazz and rock duo to quintet) and The Nerve (original band).
Mr. Silver has released several cds: Odyssey (solo acoustic and electric guitar compositions); The Nerve Ep (progressive rock originals); Scot Silver and the Jazz Guise (funky jazz cover and originals); Shades of Silver(sampler of solo guitar, fusion trio and rock band originals). Recent releases include Kaleidescape and The Nerve’s Flow.
Scot has been named up and coming guitarist in Jazz Improv Magazine.
Scot is an excellent instructor. Scot’s technical expertise and enthusiasm for teaching create an atmosphere that is both enjoyable and conducive to learning. His program combines exercises and music theory in a logical sequence of lessons that are challenging but not so demanding as to be discouraging. Scot is not only a very competent musician; he is flexible, and attuned to individual students’ specific needs and areas of interest.Melissa S.
